EXPANDING PUBLIC PROCUREMENT CAPACITY BUILDING IN THE REGION

The Principal Secretary for Public Investments and Assets Management Mr. Cyrell Wagunda received a delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini led by the Principal Secretary for Education Ms. Nanikie Mnisa who paid him a courtesy visit at the Treasury Building, Nairobi today.

The delegation is in the country on an invitation from the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) for a one week rigorous training on various aspects of public procurement. KISM leadership led by the Chairperson Ms. Jennifer Cirindi and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Kenneth Matiba MBS were present.

PS Wagunda commended the delegation for choosing Kenya as a benchmarking destination saying that KISM is willing to share key lessons in public procurement as Eswatini embarks on implementing major reforms.

"We are delighted that you chose to learn from us as we continue to enhance transparency and uphold integrity in public procurement. Kenya has already rolled out the electronic Government Procurement (eGP) System to ensure that we standardize the procurement processes across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

PS Mnisa appreciated the partnership with Kenya and expressed the need to deepen the collaboration for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

KISM CEO indicated that, the Institute continues to roll out programmes that make significant impact across the region adding that, in the past two years, the Institute has hosted over 10 countries on various training programmes

Mr. Matiba indicated that the Institute has developed a Cooperation Framework to support Government of Eswatini in the reforms of their Public Procurement systems especially in the education sector.

On her part, KISM Chairperson emphasized the need for deliberate investment in the education sector and highlighted the various steps being taken by the Institute to enhance professionalism in the sector.
