The Principal Secretary for Public Investments and Assets Management Mr. Cyrell Wagunda today hosted the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya BioVax Institute Dr. Wesley Rono who paid him a courtesy visit at the Treasury Building.

The CEO who was accompanied by the Manager in charge of Strategy, Partnerships and Project Management Ms. Hanifa Ibrahim briefed the PS on the mandate of the Institute as a leading manufacturer for safe, effective and quality vaccines and other health products.

Biovax Institute is legally mandated to manufacture, package and commercialize specialized health products and technologies including vaccines, therapeutics and other biomedical products.

Dr. Rono further enumerated the ongoing projects aimed at improving the access to affordable healthcare and reducing reliance on imported products noting that, the Government is committed to building its own capacity for the production of human vaccines, as a long-term measure to ensure Kenya becomes self-sufficient in its vaccine needs and in building security of supply.

The PS noted that Kenya Biovax Institute has been classified as a Government-Owned Enterprise (GOE) vide GOE Act of 2025 effectively placing it under his State Department.

He committed to continue supporting the Institute to enable it to effectively and efficiently discharge its mandate.
