The Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management Mr. Cyrell Wagunda alongside other senior national and county leaders joined His Excellency the President Dr. William Ruto and the President of Uganda His Excellency Gen. Yoweri Museveni during the launch of the Kisumu-Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (Phase 2C) in Kisumu County.

The mega Project stretching over 107 kilometers starts Kisumu (DK 384) to Malaba (Dk482-662) and is a continuation of the Naivasha-Kisumu SGR Phase 2B.

The line which shall be critical in integrating transport and logistics from Kenya to Uganda where each passenger train shall transport nearly 1,100 passengers at a speed of 120 kilometres per hour.

The route shall also enable seamless movement of cargo, each freight train carrying at least 4,000 tonnes of luggage per trip at a speed of 80 kilometres per hour. This is equivalent to 22 million tonnes per annum.

The two Heads of State and Government hailed the ambitious project saying it shall facilitate trade by easing movement of basic commodities between the two friendly countries.
