PS WAGUNDA ENGAGES KBC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Principal Secretary for Public Investments and Assets Management, Mr. Cyrell Wagunda, held a strategic consultative meeting with the Board of Directors of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to align on the operationalization of the Corporation under the Government Owned Enterprises (GOE) framework.

The engagement focused on positioning KBC as a commercially viable and efficiently governed State Corporation in line with the provisions of the GOE Act, 2025.

PS  Wagunda  underscored that the new law represents a significant reform in the governance, oversight, and performance management of GOEs, requiring a transition from traditional administrative models to commercially driven, results-oriented institutions.

He directed that KBC fully complies with established governance frameworks, including the Mwongozo Code and the GOE legal framework. He emphasized the need for a clear, costed, and time-bound Strategic Plan aligned to national development priorities, alongside measures to enhance financial sustainability through diversified revenue streams and reduced reliance on the Exchequer.

Further, the PS highlighted the critical importance of prudent public asset management, strict adherence to procurement and reporting standards, and zero tolerance to governance lapses. He called on the Board to strengthen internal controls, risk management systems, and audit compliance, while ensuring accountability of management and upholding the highest standards of integrity, including conflict of interest disclosures and confidentiality.

The KBC Board, led by Chairperson Mr. Tom Mshindi, outlined ongoing and planned reforms aimed at modernizing infrastructure, revitalizing content, enhancing revenue generation, and leveraging digital platforms to expand audience reach, particularly among younger demographics.

The CEO, Ms. Agnes Kalekye, reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to implementing these reforms and expressed appreciation for the Government’s strategic guidance.

The engagement reaffirmed Government’s commitment to transforming KBC into a sustainable, competitive, and impactful national broadcaster under the GOE framework.
